Some area music lovers are calling it "Symphonic Idol" - it's the competition between seven talented conductors to see who wins the title of Music Director of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra.

On Saturday, November 7, Morihiko Nakahara becomes the third conductor to audition for the role in an 8 p.m. concert in the Civic Center Theater. You'll hear Lizst's mysterious "Mephisto Waltz," Tchaikovsky's magnificent final symphony, the "Pathetique," and Peoria Symphony Concertmaster Marcia Henry Liebenow will solo in Stanford's lively Irish Rhapsody No. 6 and Aaron Kernis's romantic "Air for Violin and Orchestra."

Maestro Nakahara has two tough acts to follow, as conductors Michael Butterman and Sarah Hicks both received enthusiastic standing ovations for their performances. "Wizard of Oz"- Offers Cast & Crew
Wednesday, November 4

Cast & Crew, a pre-show Question & Answer session with "Wizard of Oz" cast and crew members, will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. This is a great opportunity for patrons to hear behind-the-scenes stories and learn how "Wiazrd of Oz" performers deal with life on the road.

Cast & Crew will be held in Meeting Room 135/136 on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, from 6:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

A limited edition figurine of the four "Wizard of Oz" characters, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion, will be given away to one lucky person attending the Cast and Crew.

"Wizard of Oz" will be held at the Peoria Civic Center Theater November 3-4, 2009, at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Anyone with a ticket to either performance is welcome to attend the Cast & Crew event.
